Christian Doctrine

How Many Gods are there?

We as Christians worship one God in three persons. The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, the trinity. Some false religions teach that there is no Trinity, that there is only one God, Not three Gods. They do not understand that the Trinity is not three Gods but rather But they do not understand That Jesus Christ is part of the 3 personages of God along with The Holy Spirit and God the Father who is the God Head. These 3 are one God. The Bible clearly teaches this. these. Isaiah 44:6 and 8 say, "Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. . . 9Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any." There is only one God. Yet, the Father is called God (Phil. 1:2); Jesus is called God (John 1:1, 14; 8:58; Heb. 1:8); and the Holy Spirit is called God (Acts 5:3-4). God is a trinity. God is three simultaneous persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Though there is no single verse that establishes the trinity, it is derived from many verses. The Bible clearly teaches that there is only one God in existence, anywhere, any time, any place.

Jesus is the second person of the Trinity. He became a man in order to die on the cross. He was in heaven before He came to earth born of a virgin. Matt. 1:20 tells us, "But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." Jesus had an earthy Mother but she through The Holy Spirit conceived a child. This Child was born a God/ man. John 1:1, 14, "In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. . . And the word became flesh and dwelt among us. . ." This word is the Lord Jesus Christ who in the beginning the word was with God and with them was the Holy Spirit.Col. 2:9, "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. The Bible makes it very clear that Jesus Christ is part of the Trinity and that Jesus has two natures. He is both God and man. See also, Heb. 1:8; Phil. 2;5-8; John 8:58 with Exodus 3:14; Zech. 12:10.

We men need a Savior and that Savior is Jesus who rose from the dead in the same body that he died in. It retained His scars. Though His body was resurrected and glorified, but it was the same body. John 2:19-21, "Jesus answered them, 'Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.' 20 The Jews replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?' 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body." Luke 24:39, "Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have." Jesus Christ has two natures, He is It took Jesus Christ sacrifice on the cross that lead to His death and His resurrected body from the grave to save us from our sins. To save us from the wrath of God if we repent of our sins. That wrath is an eternity spent in Hell.

The Trinity
As I said earlier some teach that The Holy Spirit is not God but merely the power of God. This is not true He is not a force like radar. He is not merely an energy presence. The Holy Spirit is a person like the Father and the Son. He is, like the Father and the Son, God. Acts 5:3-4"But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 While it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God." One can not lie to a power or an energy presence. No, Ananias lied to God The Holy Spirit.
God has revealed His character and will in the Law. To sin is to offend God; it is to break His law
. 1 John 3:4, Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. See also Rom. 3:20; 4:15; 7:7-13; James 2:9; 1 John 5:17;God demands one to keep His laws perfectly. This a man cannot do. Why, Because Adam fell, we fell with him. We inherited his sinful nature. All of what we are, body, soul, spirit, mind, emotions, etc. is touched by sin. According to God's word, the sinner (the unsaved), cannot understand spiritual things (1 Cor. 2:14); is full of evil (Mark 7:21-23); does not seek for God (Rom. 3:11); is lawless, rebellious, unholy, and profane (1 Tim. 1:9), etc

Many think hell is a state of mind, right here on earth, or that it simply doesn't exist. It does. The Bible tells us about it. Mark 9:43, " 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out." Rev. 14:11, "And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name." See also, Luke 16:19-31; 2 Pet. 2:4; Matt. 22:13; Jude 6, 23; Rev. 21:8.

Yet there is Salvation to all that would repent of their sins. Salvation is the act where God, through the atonement of Jesus, forgives a person of his sins. He is justified before God and saved from damnation. Rom. 5:1, "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Rom. 8:1, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, See also, Matt. 1:21; Heb. 2:14, 15; Rom. 5:9; John 3:17. Salvation cannot be obtained by any thing we do. God forgives us and saves us through His gift of grace through faith. Eph. 2:8, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." Rom. 6:23. We do not earn our salvation the Bible tells us that the only thing we can earn is death. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." See also, John 3:14-18.

The Devil

The devil, also called Satan, was an angel who lifted himself in pride and rebelled against God. He is evil, wicked, a deceiver, and powerful. 2 Cor. 11:14, ". . . Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light . . ."
John 8:44, "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." See also, Isaiah 14:12-20; Ezekiel 28:14-19.
The unbelievers of this world do not realize who is in control of their very lives. 1 John 5:19 tells us this, "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one."

Those that say they do not believe in Satan are the very ones he is controlling and bring to ruins. This is why we are commanded to not get mixed up in the worlds affairs but must separate ourselves from it. The world is in darkness and are as the blind leading the blind being deceived into believing that they are actually in the light. Christians are warned of Satan’s ways. 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" To be sure Satan is real and his sole purpose is to destroy, to murder, to deceive by distorting the truth of Gods word. If he could he would deceive the believer and bring him to destruction but he can not because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross at calvary. Jesus said in John 19:10. " When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. It was at point that Satan was totally defeated. When Jesus said It is finished he was referring to the work that God the Father had sent Him to do. On that cross the prophecy in Gen. 3:14-15, "14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." has come to pass. Satans time is limited now he has another appointment, to be chained in the pits of Hell for all of eternity. Rev. 20:10, "10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

The Bible

Where can we find absolute truth these days. Is it in the mouths of men? Is it written in their Government Laws? Men articulate what they think truth is but they do not know what truth is! So, where then can we find truth? Isa. 45:19 tells us this, "I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right." Truth is given to us through the words of God written within the pages of the Bible. The Bible is authored by God, through men. They were inspired. The original documents were without error or contradiction. 2 Tim. 3:16, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. . . " See also, Rev. 22:19; Acts 17:11. Who among us would depend upon the words of man knowing full well that he is a incapable of telling the absolute truth. John 18:35-38, "37"You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." 38"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him. Pilate was saying essentially what teachers in schools say today, truth can be anything we want it to be. Your truth might be different then my truth. It all depends on how you look at it. When President Clinton was question concerning his affairs with a young women in the White House he gave an answer to a question by saying, "that all depends on what Is Is. "

Man has a way of painting a picture in of shades of gray rather white or black. White being truth and black being a lie. Rom.3:12-17, "12All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one." 13"Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." "The poison of vipers is on their lips." 14"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness." Whether we want to admit it or not man is not capable of telling the truth. Only the word of God can be depended upon for leading us through this life. It will never lie to us because it is the absolute word of God. A God does not lie. Numbers 23:19, " God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

The Rapture

It may sound odd. But the rapture is when Jesus returns to gather His people. Those who are alive when this happens will not see death, but will be changed. 1 Thess. 4:16-17, "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever." See also, 1 Cor. 15:51-53

Some have a difficult time with this doctrine because of false teachings. Let examine the events of 1 Thes. 4:13-17, to see what events take place and when they take place. Vs. 13. The Apostle Paul begins by telling the Thessalonians this, 13 "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope." He says do not be concerned about those that fall asleep, {die]. The Thessalonians knew about Jesus Christ returning to Earth to set up His Kingdom. They were concerned about what would happen to those that died before He came. Paul told them not to be concerned and he told them he wanted them to know so that they would have hope and not be like the unsaved that did not have that hope. Paul’s goes on to tell them what he believes. 14"We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." Here he explains where those that died actually go. Apparently they go to heaven to be with the Lord when they die. Why else would Paul say, "we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." ? Paul is telling the Thessalonians, do not worry when you die you will go to heaven and when it is time for the Lord to come back He will bring you with Him. So do not be concerned, you we not miss anything. Paul then goes on to tell the Thessalonians the order of things, He says, in Vs 15, "According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

Those that are alive and that do not die who are still alive when the Lord comes will also be taken up to the Lord but not until those that have died. Now here’s where some get very confused. Vs: 16, "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. This dead that rise first are those that are with Jesus when He returns. Jesus will send their souls back into a new body here on earth. All that is in the grave is dust or decaying flesh. Those that died before Christ returns, souls went to be with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 5:8 tells us, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." Those that are present with the Lord are those that died before His return.

This new body will rise up to the Lord in the air. How does this happen? I do not know, but I know that it will happen. The Bible says that the Word, Jesus Christ created the heavens and the earth. John 1:3-4 tells us this, "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. " Jesus will give those that came with Him who died a new body too. He is God, He can do it and will do it, He will give that new resurrected body new life because, "In him was life, and that life was the light of men. " The next event that will happen will be those that are alive will be caught up in the air together with those that had first resurrected. Verse17 "After that, we who are still alive and remain are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever." Those that have not died will be changed into a new body Instantaneously. This is our hope. This is what we as Christians must hope for. This is what I wait eagerly for. Finally verse 18 tells us this, "Therefore encourage each other with these words. " When there is no hope in this world at all, when all else fails we can rely on the word of God as truth. Someday this will happen and we will be with the Lord forever.

Adam and Eve

They were created by God, lived in the Garden of Eden, are our ancient parents. Gen. 2:20 - 21, "So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man." See also, Gen. 1:26,27; Gen. 2:7; Rom. 5:12-14. Because Adam and Eve fell from grace God separated them from His self. Gen. 2: 15 tells us, The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." But Eve was deceived by Satan to eat from the forbidden tree and Adam ate with here.Gen. 3:1-6. Adam and Eve had a personal relationship with God. But, now there eyes were opened to a new way of life. That way is the way of rebellion against God. And because of that rebellion, they suddenly were aware of sin. Where they once were not with sin now suddenly they became condemned to death because of sin. Where they once lived in harmony with God and were obedient to His commandments, now they were afraid of Him and hid from Him. Gen. 3:8. Because of their sin they could no longer live in the Garden of Eden. God hates sin and will not allow the person who sins to have a relationship with Him. So Adam and Eve were cast out from the Garden and were punished for their sins. But before He did He provided a covering for the harsh conditions that were outside the Garden. This covering of animal skins is a picture of the then coming Lord Jesus Christ who would be made a covering for all sin for those that accept Jesus Christ as their covering. Jesus Christ went to the cross and took upon Himself the penalty of sin for all those that would accept Him as their Savior. The first Adam brought on death to all generations that would follow, but the second Adam, Jesus Christ came to same us, to redeem us from our sins.

How many ways are there to God?

Unlike other men who have existed, Jesus was God in flesh. He said He was the only way to God. there are no other ways other than Jesus. John 14:6, "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" John 10:1, ""I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber." ACTS 4:12,"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." There are many different religions today that say their way is the way to receive Salvation. But really they mostly all teach this one way, doing good works of one kind or another. But God says in His word the Bible this "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Eph.2:8-9. There is no amount of good works that a person could do to save them. Salvation is a gift from God. If one does not rely on teh sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for him on the cross at calvary, but instead tries to earn his salvation he will not be saved at the judgment. One can only earn Gods wrath and an eternity in hell. There is only one way to God and that His by way of Jesus Christ.

When you die . . .

Death brings us face to face with eternity. For those in Christ, heaven is the destiny. For those who reject Him, eternal damnation is the result. Phil. 1:21-23, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far." 2 Cor. 5:8, "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." I think it is strange how most of us try to think of death as something that happens others but not to us. Yet if we are truly Christians death should not be something that we ought to be afraid of. As a Minister I go into nursing homes a lot compared to most others, to do my ministry. I have seen the believers who die with great dignity. Their attitude is very good and they are ready to die. When their hour comes, they die quietly. They know that the hour has finally come when they will go to heaven. They are comforted by their trust in the promises in the Bible. They believe what John 3:16,"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." They die knowing that dying does not bring an end for them, know, it brings about living an eternity with God. They know that the instant they close their eyes in death they next moment they will be in heaven. 2 Cor. 5:6-8, " 6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7(For we walk by faith, not by sight: 8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." Death to the believer means an eternity with God.

What about the unbelievers? What happens to them? There will be an eternity for the unbelievers as well. But they will not spend it with God. John 3:36 tells us this, " He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." The wrath of God will be upon this individual for ever. It will be torcher there and there we be know way out. Luke 16:19-26. When we die we will either go to heaven and live eternally with God and all that is good, or die and go to hell where there is much anguish and pain and live there forever. Which way will you go?
See also, Isaiah 59:2; 2 Thess. 1:9; Gen. 3:19; 1 Cor. 13:12

Evolution is not the fact it is told to be. It is not consistent with the Bible. God created man; man did not evolve. Gen. 1:26, "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'" Heb. 11:3, "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. "See also, Col. 1:16,17; Psalm 104:30; Gen. 1-2

God's creation and our salvation were not just so we could live with Him. God desires fellowship and intimacy in a loving relationship with His people. 1 John 1:3, "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ."
Rev. 21:3, "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.'"
