Lesson 1 Assurance of Salvation
How can a person be sure that he is saved? Is there something that he must
do to be assured of his salvation? Can someone lose their salvation after they have become saved? These are some of the questions
that are frequently asked by a new Christian and even some who have been saved for years. There are a number of ways that
the Bible gives the answers to these very important questions.
There are some Christians today that live by a what I call a day by day
salvation. They believe that each time they sin that until they repent of that sin they are under the condemnation from God.
A careful study of the Bible will show that this is not what the Bible teaches at all. Think about this for a moment. If we
must depend on our own ability to keep our selves saved, we are in a world of trouble. For the Bible tells us in Romans 3:
9-10, What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike
are all under sin. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; " So we see here, no one at all is righteous,
we are all under penalty of sin. There is only one way that we can be assured of our salvation and that is through what
Jesus has done on the cross at calvary. God demands a perfect sacrifice for our sins to be forgiven. That sacrifice that was
given was Jesus Christ the Lamb of God.
I believe that those that have a difficult time realizing assurance of
salvation are the very same ones that believe that they were saved by something they had done. I've heard some Christians
say that they found Jesus, that they decided to live a life of Christ. That they were the ones that seeked after Christ. When
one thinks this way they are saying it was them not God that procured their own salvation. But what does John 6:44 tell us?
"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day." We are not the ones
who seek God. God is the one who started the process not us! Someone might say, Yes but it is up to me after God called me
to do this or that to become saved. Did you know that we can not even believe in God without help from God. Philippians 1:29
tells us, "For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him," God
is the one who called us, and He is the one that opened up our minds to be able to believe on Jesus Christ. Now if he is the
one that called us, and if He is the one that opened our minds to be able to believe on Jesus, then why wouldn't He be the
one that makes are salvation sure? Philippians 1:6 tells us this, " being confident of this, that he who began a good work
in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." It is not through anything we have done or will ever
do that gives us assurance of Salvation. It is only through God and His mercy that we are saved and have assurance of salvation.
We must simply believe that because God does not lie, He keeps His promise.
I once heard a story about a certain church that believes
in salvation through ones works. This woman was part of a church ministry that went out on a daily bases to knock on doors
to witness to people. She did this for many years. One day she confessed that after all the years she was doing this she still
did not know for sure that when she died that she would be saved. She was a faithful church member and got involved in many
other activities but she did not have the assurance of salvation. This is what happens to those that do good works so that
they can be saved. Believers do not do good works to be saved they do good works because they are saved.
Unless we believe that Jesus Christ alone is our savior we will never feel sure of our salvation. It is through Christ and
Him alone that we can be assured. It is important for a Christian to know whether he is saved or not. He can not just
think he is.
Ephesians 2:8-9, tells us, For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. It is by Gods
grace, His mercy that we can be saved. Romans 5:17 "For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through
that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign
in life through the one man, Jesus Christ". It was through Adam that sin came upon us. We were put under the Law which could
only offer us death, but it was through the second Adam, Jesus Christ who came as a perfect lamb of God. It was through Christ
willingness to die on the cross at calvary that those who would believe in Him could be saved forever. Christ sacrifice was
once and for all. This grace is a free gift to those that would accept His sacrifice as their own. The work that was done
was not our work, it was the work of our savior Jesus Christ. Since this was a gift to men there is nothing else to do but
to accept that gift. And if a gift one does not need to work for it. It was freely given, and once given can never be taken
away.
(James 2:23). "And the scripture was fulfilled that says,
"Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,"[ and he was called God's friend" Just as Abraham needed only to believe, we too only have to believe God. His word
tells us that once we are saved we are promised eternal life. John 3:16 tells us this "For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life". Salvation is assured forever.
In fact the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our savior, when we believe in Him and accept Him as Savior, our salvation from
that very day is assured forever.
These things (about having the life) have I written unto you that believe
on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son
of God" (1 John 5:9-13).
"And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence of the
full assurance of hope unto the end" (Heb. 6:11-12). Here is a reference to that assurance which is the full conviction that
every promise and revelation concerning the future will be surely fulfilled. This, like all assurance, is simply the result
of believing God. God said it we must believe it because God can not lie. Numbers 23:19,God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that
he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Lesson 2
Living The Christian Life
What is the greatest gift that God gives us? Is the gift given to us to
use for our own selfish reasons. So that we might become wealthy in need of nothing. No, Our God has called us into His kingdom
not for us to continue to live as the world does but rather to live the life that our Lord Jesus Christ lived. That life was
to not be centered on self but to be centered on these three things, To Love Our God above all else. To put Him and His glory
before all things. And to love our neighbor as our selves.
Romans 15:6, tells us, "so that with one heart and mouth
you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." The most important thing a Christian can do is to glorify God
in every thing he does. This really is the sole purpose of the believer. Nothing else is more important. King David in
Ps.86:12 puts it this way, "I will praise you, O Lord
my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever." The Apostle Paul puts it this way, 1 Cor. 31, "So whether
you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." Not much left to the imagination here is there? No matter
what we do we are to do it all for the glory of God. Every bit of our lives is to be used to the glorification of God.
We need to ask our selves this question, do I from the time I get up till the time I go to bed glorify God? If you are like
me your answer is no. Oh, we get up in the morning and this is our intention, but then we go to work and it is not long before
we get caught up into the cares of this world. We must not allow ourselves to focus away from the Lord. We must have the mind
of Christ in us, Phil. 2:5, "Let this mind be
in you, which was also in Christ Jesus"
We as Christian are to become like Christ by being transformed as a new
creation in Christ, and like him in his righteousness! Rom 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." There are two
types of ways of thinking, 1. we can think on the get way of living or 2. we can think on the give way of living. The get
way is the way of this world. The worlds way thinks this, If I do this or if I do that, what do I get out of it. The
get way has its desires on the things of this world. It believes that Success is getting material things. It believes the
more it has the more happier it will be. The get way does not want to part with any thing it has. This way of getting is the
trap that Satan uses to hold a person prisoner.
It reminds me of a story that I heard about how men catch monkeys alive.
They make a wooden box covered on all sides. Then they cut one hole in each of the four sides just large enough for the monkey
to put his hand into the box.. After they do that they tie a rope to the top of the box, put a piece of fruit inside the box
and then they hang the box in the air from a tree limb. Then they wait in a hidden place till a monkey comes along and reaches
in the box to get the fruit. When the monkey does, the men run out and catch the monkey. Now you may ask, why doesn't the
monkey just run away. He can't. Do you know why? He can't because he will not let go of the fruit, and his hand will not fit
through the hole in the box unless he lets go of the fruit and he will not do that. This is exactly how the person who has
his mind set on getting is trapped by Satan. The material things in this world become a trap to those that have the mind of
get. God wants us to have a renewing of our minds. To think of others before our selves. To be givers and not getters.
Is becoming a giver an automatic thing? Is the first thing we do after
becoming saved becoming a giver? No, it takes a renewing of our minds and that takes trust in God. Once we begin to trust
in God in all areas of our lives and desire to let Gods love control our lives, then we begin to let go of the old man in
us that wants to get rather then give. It takes a Conscious effort on our part to let go of the control of our lives and giving
the control to God. Once we begin to do that we are then making a conscious effort to Glorify God. It is when our thoughts
of becoming a giver as Jesus was turns to an action, allowing Gods love flowing through us to others that we begin to Glorify
God.
Mat 7:24 tells
us "Every one who hears these my teachings and acts upon them will be found to resemble a wise man who builds his house upon
rock" All the good intentions are worthless unless they are put into action. Jam 1:22 "But be ye doers of the word,
and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." I once heard of a young man who went to college. He went to learn a certain
thing. He after a number of years graduated. He then decided he wanted to go back to college to learn to do something else,
and after a number of years he again graduated. Then he decided to go back again to learn more. Now whether this story is
true or not I do not know. This is exactly what a Chrisitian does when he goes to church, studies his Bible, and takes a multitude
of Bible course but never takes what he learns and puts it to action. Our sole purpose in this life is to glorify God by what
we give to others, what we leave rather then what we take. God expects us to take His love and share it with others. Yes it
is important to pray, and to study Gods word, and yes these also glorify God, but unless we share the love of God with others
we fall short in glorifying God. This will not be easy either. It will take sacrifice on our part to do this.1 Peter4:1, "For as much then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves
likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;" God not only expects us to do this,
He commands it! Mark 16:15-16, "He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."
How we grow in Christ and continually Glorify Him 1. Humbly surrender to the will of God. 2. Repent for
the forgiveness of sins. 3. Engage in Spiritual warfare. 4. Praise and worship God. 5. Give more than you receive.
6. Read the Bible. 7. Pray and Obey. 8. Take actions of faith. 9. Serve, Serve, Serve! 10. Seek Christian
fellowship

Lesson 3
Growing in Christ
As Christians, from day one, we must
learn to develop certain habits that will cause us to have a closer relationship with Christ. I think the first thing we must
come to realize is that these things do not just happen. They require our sincere effort. As any relationship, our relationship
with Christ must not be a one sided one. Jesus will always be there but without our willing participation little will be learned.
God will not force Himself upon us. In this lesson we will learn how to make our relationship a close one with our Lord. There
are 5 important steps we must apply in order for us to grow in faith, help us enjoy Christianity more, and help us become
more helpful to others.
1. Prayer
Luke 11:1-4 One day Jesus was praying
in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."
He said to them, "When you pray, say: " 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation."
Jesus here points out to the disciples
how one should approach God in prayer. He begins the prayer example by using common language of the day. Not in fancy words
but speaking to God as our Father. The prayer begins by letting God know that we recognize that He is above all else and that
His name is Holy. Then telling God how much we yearn for His kingdom to come, because we have that hope to be in that Kingdom
with Him. Asking God to give us our daily bread is a way of saying to God how dependent we are on Him. That He alone is where
our trust is. When we ask Him to forgive us our sins we let Him know that we are completely helpless and totally lost in our
sins without Him. Because He forgives us of our sins we should forgive others who sin against us.
When Jesus used this prayer His intention
was not for us to recite it but to understand its content and our relationship to God. As I said earlier, the intent of the
prayer was not necessarily to be recited but to learn how to pray. Remember, one of the disciples asked Jesus, "Teach us to
pray," he did not ask what words to pray. When we pray to God we don't have to use fancy religious sounding words. The words
that God is most interested in hearing are the words that come from our hearts. You can drop the thee and thou's and just
speak to God as if He was in the room with you. Jesus assured his disciples that God hears and answers our prayers (verses
5-13). Ask, and you will receive! But He also knows what is best for us and will not give us every thing that we ask for.
Our responsibility is to ask God for the things we need, not necessarily the things we want. James 4:2 tells us, "You
want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not
have, because you do not ask God. Our God is ready and able to answer all of our prayers, and He always does, sometimes the
answer is yes and some times it is No. Never give up praying for your needs God will hear you and will always answer you,
and it will always be best for you.
There is much to be said about prayer
but the most important thing of all is that we keep praying. The Bible tells us Philippians 4:6, "In everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" The true army of God advances forward not on there bellies
but before God on their knees.
2. Bible study
When we pray to God it is our way to
speak to God, but when we study and read our Bible it is God's way of speaking to us. 2 Peter 1:21b, "but men spoke
from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit". Even though the words in the Bible were written by men, they were
nevertheless inspired by the Holy Spirit. I often think about the fact that when I read my Bible it is literally God speaking
to me. 2 Timothy 3:15-17, "and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise
for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." From the time we were
babes in Christ we were given the word of God to lead us along. It is our guide manual to live a fruitful life, it led us
to Salvation and it helps us lead others to salvation. It is Gods way of correcting us and yes rebuking us when we turn back
towards our old ways.
The Bible is the only book that I have
ever read that can be read and re-read, and each time we read it again we gain more wisdom and insight to this life and
to the life to come. It is through the Bible that God not only speaks to us He reveals some of His deepest thoughts in a way
to each of us that we can all understand it. It is only through the Bible that we can read of other Christians that came before.
We can read how they felt and what they went through and this is very comforting to us, because we can see that we are not
alone in this struggle, others before us went through some of the same things. The Bible is our book of history, our book
of now, and our book of the future events yet to happen. And guess what, it is our book of hope. We know that when we leave
this life this book gives us the assurance that we will live forever with God. It is through this book that God tells us what
He is like and what His Son Jesus Christ is like. But the key is to keep at it. It is a big book, with ideas that touch on
a wide range of life. Although the main message is simple, it is also filled with profound insights. There is a lot to think
about, again and again, each time we read it.
3. Fellowship
There is a song that I used to love to
sing. Its title is "No Man is an Island." Each and every one of us needs one another. We are all called into the body of Christ.
The Bible tells us that each and every one of us was called to fit into the body as He has made us. We all have different
gifts and have at least one gift to share to help build up the body and when just one of us is missing, an important part
of the body is missing. The apostle Paul described believers as "the body of Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:27). Not that each
person is the body of Christ, but together we are the body — and "the body is not made up of one part but of many" (verse
14).We are all put into the body for the benefit of others in the body. At times we receive special attention from others
in the body. Maybe it's encouragement when we are down or a helping hand of some kind. Other times we are the ones that are
the encourager and the givers. The Body of Christ is working together at all times.
"Love one another," he tells us. "Be
devoted to one another in brotherly love." "Serve one another in love" (Romans 12:10; 13:8; Galatians 5:13). To do that, it
is essential that we know one another and meet one another on a regular basis. This is a habit that helps us grow spiritually.
"Let us not give up meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another" (Hebrews 10:25 The Body of Christ meets together to worship
together, to sing praises to God together. And we are there to bring others with us that do not know the Lord that they might
hear the word of God, maybe for the first time. And if those that do come and receive Christ, we in the body are there to
congratulate them and help them along with their walk with God as they need it. We are working together, learning to care
for one another. Loving one another in the body of Christ is a work in progress. That is why God has brought us together and
given us different abilities.
4. Congregational Worship
The word "worship" means to have worth.
When we come together to worship God it demonstrates outwardly how much God means to us. We come together as a group to praise
God for whom He is and what He means to us. When we come together at our weekly Church service we do things in the open that
we do normally in the privacy of our homes. We express our love for God outwardly. By doing so we show that we are unashamed
to come before our God for all the world to see. We humble ourselves before our God and lay aside our daily activities to
come before our God and worship together as a group.
Colossians 3:16, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God" When we come together
in worship we have opportunity to teach one another and to admonish and exhort one another. Coming together to worship God
should be a wonderful place to meet others, to pray for them as a group, to sing praises to God and being able to seek consultation
from those that may have had the same experience.
5. Ministry
1 Corinthians 12:7, God has called us
together to serve one another. Since God has given us certain abilities "for the common good" (1 Corinthians 12:7), we are
supposed to use them to serve others. That is why he has given them and what we are supposed to do with them.
The Bible tells us that every Christian
is a priest — one who serves God and people (1 Peter 2:5). Every Christian offers spiritual sacrifices and worships
with praise and prayers.
Similarly, every Christian is a minister,
for the word "minister" simply means "servant." Pastors serve in the way that God enables them, singers serve in the way that
God enables them, and teachers serve in the way that God enables them. The point is that everyone serves. Everyone ministers
in one way or another, and by doing so, we are all strengthened in the faith.
"Each one should use whatever gift he
has received to serve others.... If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves,
he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 4:10-11).

Lesson 4, Christian beliefs
God created all that is seen and unseen
John 1:1-3,
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through
him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." God did not create all that is visible an invisible
by the "big bang." There is not a thing that God did not make. What person would look around this world and see what man has
done with his own hands and then believe that he really did not build these things they just came into existence without
the mans efforts? What person would go into a library and believe that the books all assembled their selves and what person
would look at this earth and see its great details and say that it all just haapened by accident. I will tell you what the
Bible calls this kind of person. Psalm 53:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they,
and have done abominable." Any one with just the least common sence would admit there had to be a creator.
Jesus is the Son of God and is One with God
John 1:14, "The
Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the
Father, full of grace and truth." Christians believe that Jesus is one with God, that God sent Jesus here to save us of our
sins.
Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary Christians believe that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit of God and born through
the Virgin Mary. As explained in Matthew 1:18, "This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged
to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit."
Jesus suffered and was crucified
Christians believe that Jesus Christ suffered and was crucified for their
sins. That He did it willing. He was falsely accused and was horribly beaten and suffered beyond imagination. He was brought
to Pontius Pilate to be crucified. He was mocked, beaten, taunted and crucified.
Jesus died and was buried
We believe that Jesus actually died and was buried in a tomb. Matthew 27:57-60,
As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going
to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean
linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance
to the tomb and went away. The core of the Christian belief is that Jesus lived as a human man, yet as God, and that this
man God was crucified on the cross at calvary, that He died, was buried and raised from the grave.
Jesus ascended into Heaven
After Jesus death and burial the Christian believes that after 3 days He
was resurrected from the grave and made Himself seen by the Apostles and others. After 40 days He ascended into Heaven [Acts
1: 1-9]. We too will go to Heaven, but only through faith in Jesus Christ. As explained in Mark 16:19-20.
Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead The Bible tells us in Matt.24:30-31, "30At that time the sign of the Son of Man
will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of
the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect
from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." What a wonderful day that will be for the elect, the believers
of Jesus Christ who have accepted Him as their personal savior. But the appearing of God will be bad news for all those that
have not believed. John 3:17-18, "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world
through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he
has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." Many people quote John 3:16 but fail to quote John 3:17-18. Those
that are unbelievers do not have to wait for Christ to return to be condemned, the bible says they are condemned already.
This is why when an unbeliever dies His "reward" is Hell upon immediately upon his death, because he is already condemned.
But, God offers salvation today for anyone that would repent of their sins and ask Jesus to come into their lives. John 3:16
gives us all hope of salvation through Jesus Christ, but John 3:17-18 serve as a warning to all that will not repent, that
if they die without that hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ, they will forever be condemned to Hell. Rev.21:5-8.
9. People who repent their sins will be forgiven
Romans 10:9-10, tells us, "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus
is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Not much more can be added to this statement.
Being saved means that when we physically die we will be spared Gods wrath. At the instance we breath our last breath we will
be ushered into the very presence of God. Think about that for a moment, living eternally in Heaven with God and with all
those that have gone before us, Rev. 1-4.
10. Anyone can have salvation All people may receive salvation in the
name of Jesus Christ. In Romans 10:12 , for example, it says: "For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same
Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him…" John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
